Re: The past forty-five years' experience with 3-D movies, and the resurgent
experiments with anaglyph and frame sequential applications: - John Kobal,
in his excellent book " Hollywood Color Portraits" gives a brief,
comprehensive summary of the history of color in the movies, which goes back
to an early two -strip additive process in <1917.> Now, think about the
long haul to today's color everything, and B xW movies as the province of a
few mavericks. Kobal goes on to say that audiences " adopted realism as a
final, absolute aspiration, and would not be deterred from acquiring sound,
color and relief, although not necessarily in that order: color came to the
cinema before sound did, and a viable stereposcopy is still in the future."
...Yeah. I guess I agree with Kobal. IMHO, with the proliferation of Dolby
surround, higher fidelity image acquisition, and other technologies way
beyond my ken, but not my appreciation, it IS only a question of time before
3-D cinema returns, and for good. Hang in there, bobcatters.
