It's a "valid" comparison insofar as the original message asked which (in the
comparable price range) would produce the better image. From extensive personal
experience I answered that the scanner would produce the better image by far.
Then someone else stepped up to the plate and said I was a complete ignoramus
and that the digital camera would produce every bit as good a picture. We played
"Does" "Doesn't" "Does" "Doesn't" for a couple of days. Your post explains why
scanners DO in fact produce significantly better images. If the original poster
wants to wait a few years or spend $30,000 or $40,000, the answer may, of
course, change.
