George's Kodaslide Book & PS-1 Power Supply

I've never messed with a Kodaslide, and when I picked up a K1 with damaged
battery connections (but othersise in excellent condition) for $20 at the
Puyallup Camera Show, it was a perfect candidate for a Themelis redo. I
had a Themelis PS-1 power supply on hand (variable voltage from 1.2 to
2.8) and his book How to Maintain, Repair and Improve your Kodaslide I and
II Stereo Slide Viewers.

Phase one was to use a cutting wheel and slice away the damaged metal
parts of the battery connectors, then use a wire wheel on the Dremel to
polish the contact points and the lamp area. Phase two was to spend a
relaxing hour opening the aperture to handle 7 perf mounts with a hand
file. Phase three was to clean up the debris. Phase four was to install
the new reflector that came with the book. Phase five was to remove the
old cork pressure plate, scrape out all the old glue, and use the tube
pressure collar upgrade (which also came with the book) to replace it.
Phase six was to clean the lenses, attach the alligator clips from the
PS-1 power supply, and reassemble it. Lastly a little rebending of the
slide carrier to adjust top clearance. Didn't have to mess with the
interocular...

I just put a 7 perf slide in it and took a look. This thing is great!
Everything in the book went exactly according to the descriptions.

With the widened aperture, it's better than new as far as I'm concerned,
and much lighter than it would be if it was using batteries. If you plan to
attend the PSSC meeting tomorrow, I'll have it with me.

Thanks George!
