Re: 3D of Theatrical Performances

I've tried several methods of photographing theatrical performances. When I
was in London last year, I became obsessed with the idea of making 3D photos
of Vanessa and Corin Redgrave's season of plays staged in rememberance of
the 50th anniversary of VE day (I had just written a reference book on V.
Redgrave's former husband, the late theatre and film director Tony
Richardson). As luck would have it, while I was taking stereo pictures of
actor Christopher Lee at a book signing, I inadvertently positioned myself
with the London press corps. My Revere 33 looked quite out of place but
nobody seemed to care. I overheard some of the press photographers planning
to attend a photo shoot for Redgrave's play season the following day.
Seeing my chance (however slim) I showed up at the theater at the appointed
time and was semi-successful in passing myself off as a real photographer.
But, by the time I had convinced the promotion people that I was writing a
review of the play(s) for Theatre Journal (not entirely a lie), I had missed
the photo op for V. Redgrave's production of "Antony and Cleopatra." I was,
however, able to make the press shoot for another play called "The Fire
Starters." I am pleased with several of the shots. Later, while attending
a performance of "Antony and Cleopatra," I snuck my Revere in. Hiding the
camera behind a theatre program I had earlier cut two holes in, I tried to
capture something of the performance on film. I used Scala B&W slide film
that I later had push-processed. The results were not good.
