I may be missing something.  Wouldn't using an ASA 64 rated film as 
though it were ASA 50 result in slightly OVER exposing it, rather 
than under-exposing?  The amount of light sent to ASA 50 film to 
make a perfect exposure would be somewhat greater than the amount of 
light required to give a perfect exposure on ASA 64 film, so if the 
settings are for 50 but the film is 64, the film would be overexposed.
