Stereopticon Misnomer

I recently discovered the ultimate SINNER (unwashed Hun) in the use of
"stereopticon" when "stereoscope" is correct.
(drum roll) ....the Smithsonian! (muffled scream)
While in DC, I perused the National Museum of American History; it has
photographic goodies. Lo and behold, an aluminum-hooded stereoscope with its
prominently displayed identification card. Not only misidentifying it as a
Stereopticon but also "correcting" [perverting! ;-) ] the quite obvious,
engraved (Trade Mark) logo "Perfec Stereoscope" to "Perfect" . Gag me with a
telebinocular!

May H. C. White Co., makers of The "PERFEC" Stereograph and The "PERFEC"
Stereoscope rest in piece. I mean, peace.

Pax Stereophotographica,
Robert Linnstaedt
