I haven't tried Scala yet, but our good local camera shop quoted $10
and $12 for film and processing, but I forget which was which.

I have had good success with Realist format slides using Kodak
Fine Grain Release Positive Film (Kodak 5302). It is a bw 35mm
slide film with about the color sensitivity and speed of enlarging
paper. I used a good panchromatic bw film in the camera, then contact
printed onto the 5302. Striking effect; better tonal range than
color slide film.

The only place I found the film was at Adolph Gasser in San
Francisco. It comes in a 100 ft roll, for under $20. My last
roll was only about 2/3 used up when I decided it was too old
and bought a new one. Develop in cheap bw enlarging paper
developer.

Mostly I use it for title slides for my non-stereo slides.
