The latest info I have is from 1992 and it lists 18 licensed
Kodachrome processors in the U.S. It however fails to list
Dwaynes and B&W in Miami. I've been told that Palo Alto
doesn't do it any more so I suspect that my work has been
going to Dallas.
While I've read that A&I offers mailers (I've never seen them)
and B&W offers prepaid stickers, I suspect that the Post
Office may be the source of the delay. I use Kodalux and
occasionally A&I through a couple of local labs and the
return is usually 2 days (In Mon. morning back by Wed.
afternoon). The one time Kodalux mounted my stereos it took
3 weeks and the film was returned dirty, scratched, and one
pair with the chips mounted upside down from each other.
Both labs cost me $7.88 per 36 although A&I may charge less
for an unmounted roll. The lab that sends the film to A&I isn't
convenient to me so I've not sent any of my stereo work to
them, but I do think they do a better job on my 2D work. Not
that I have any major complaints with Kodalux and they're
better since Kodak bought them back. I've not had any of the
problems mentioned here (E-6 is a different story, even from
the top lab in town). Although I've had some severe green
casts that was a Kodak problem not a processing one and I
do have little nicks which I suspect come from my removing
the film from its sleeve.
Hope this helps,
