Close-up Cameras Book
- From: P3D Bob Aldridge <bob.aldridge@xxxxxx>

On 3rd June I posted a message about a booklet on close-up camera
construction:
>>HOWEVER, this discussion of close-up camera techniques reminded me
>>that Stereoscopic Society member Geoff Thurston produced an
>>interesting 30 plus page booklet describing his rather
>>"try-it-and-see-what-happens" approach to close-up camera making. It's
>>VERY easy to understand and contains many thought provoking
>>techniques. Also colour stereo pairs of results for free viewing,
>>loads of line-diagrams etc etc.
I've had a number of replies, so I'm posting extra information here, so
I don't miss anybody out (I pick up e-mail on a plethora of computers...)
The booklet is actually 42 pages, laser printed (one sided) except for a
sheet of four pairs set out for parallel free-viewing, and in colour.
These are lithoed.
The first 26 pages are analyses of various close-up camera construction
techniques, including diagrams that make it very easy to see how it was
done. These pages make it very easy to work out just what kind of
close-up cameras you can make with the contents of your junk box... :-)
Geoff has covered many examples of cameras constructed by such workers
as Pat Whitehouse (Big & Baby Bertha), Phil Shenton, Gordon Clemetson
etc.
There are good diagrams of a single lens / twin waterhouse stop design
(The "Nil Melior" design) and the Clemetson Attachment for SLRs.
Numerous charts make comparision of various combinations of format/focal
length/aperture seperation etc very easy.
Recommended at 8 GBP or 15 US dollars - both prices include postage to
USA. The dollar price includes a nominal currency conversion element.
Recommended that you send currency notes by post, direct to Geoff.
Please e-mail me if you want to order. I will then e-mail you back,
privately off-list, with Geoff's address. This way I can let him know
how many orders to expect (he'll do the currency conversion in one hit
after all the orders are in).
