I am using electronic (electrical?) release cables... Allan Griffin,
the great Australian stereo photographer and pioneer of high speed
(action) twin SLR stereos, has written a series of articles in
Stereoscopy on how to select cameras and check their synchronization...
Even if you connect two cameras electrically, there is no guarantee
that they will be well synchronized. The criterion for "good
synchronization" was set by Allan at achieving 1/500 s 80% of the
time, I think... One way to increase the chances for achieving good
synchronization is to select cameras with serial numbers close to each
other.

The Leonard brothers have published an article in PSA claiming
that they achieved perfect synchronization (1/1000 s) in mechanical
cameras using twin cable releases and relays.
