radioactive stuff, again

Awhile ago we were talking about radioactive lens elements, and I
stated that I thought at this point that the burner mantles for
gas based lights (lanterns, etc) no longer had radioactive thread
in them.

I stand corrected.

I was out to where I store the spare mantles today, and it says:

    WARNING

"In normal usage, them mantles are quite safe, but
they contain and emit small amounts of naturally
radioactive materials whether lit or unlit. Hence:

-Avoid carrying mantles close to the body,
whether in packages or not, for extended
periods or handling mantles more than
necessary. Wash hands after handling.

-Avoid breathing vapors or ash from mantle.

-Avoid skin contact with ash and dispose of
carefully in garbage.

-Wash hands after handling ash.

...other warnings

WARNING: This product contains a chemical
known to the state of California to cause
cancer."

================================

So I guess my mantle sniffing days are
over :-)
