That would probably be me!
I have used these extensively with my VM Mark II, in conjunction with
a slide bar, and have successfully made accurate close-ups from as close as
8". Actually, I used this exact set up recently to make a prototype reel
showing Chinese snuff bottles and small antique brass fittings and the
results are excellent!
My process is to measure for the correct stereo base and then move
the camera to the right and, using a piece of black card, cover the right
lens...expose for the left lens. Then, move the the camera to the left,
cover the left lens and expose for the right lens. The result is similar
to using a single-lens camera on a slide bar, but with the luxury of making
the images into hand-made reels.
I purchased my Proxars at a local camera show, each from a different
person, for a total of $50CAN. I assume that they could be found by
phoning some of the larger used-camera dealers in your area...perhaps for
even less than I paid.
