->Hi all,
->
->I've heard (and read) that silver spray paint can be used to surface a
->viewing board (plywood). Has anyone painted their own silver
->"screen"? How did it work out? What kind of paint did you use?
->
->Thanks,
->Don
Yes, you can spray your own screen, but beware! Plywood is very
absorbent and will give you a very mottled screen unless you coat it
first. I suggest you find an old white screen large enough to cover your
board with a reasonable "wrap-round".
The best paint that I've found is the aerosols of aluminium primer sold
for use on cars.
Spray this surface, completely un tensioned and flat on the ground.
You'll have to be careful to avoid paind puddles etc. Many thin coats
will work best.
When the paint has dried (leave for a VERY long time to let all of the
solvents escape - they affect the stretching properties of the screen
material) apply a THIN coat of clear lacquer. This is just to seal the
surface and reduce the effects of finger marks.
Now, stretch your screen over the board and secure with a staple gun.
You'll have to do this gradually and stretch as needed to achieve a
perfectly flat surface. Oh! you need to prepare the edges of the board
so there aren't any rough bits sticking up...
Hope that helps
