There was one of these Sawyer viewers fr sale at the bring and buy of the
Midland group of the UK stereoscopic society earlier this year . It looked
much like a Viewmaster except for the slot for a 35mm slide I wondered at
first if it was for viewing half frame pairs from a beamsplitter .But it
seems it was just another attempt to create 3D from 2D by creating a stereo
"window" for the slide perhaps there might also be some chromostereopsis as
well. I dont think it sold ,actualy there were some viewers made for magic
lantern slides which had two lenses in addition to the single ones .
Earlier still (1700,s) some "peep boxes" had two lenses instead of the
usual one for viewing single images.
