Monobjective Binocular Microscope stereo

I just noticed that the B&L Monobjective Binocular Microscope I picked up
a few months ago in the junk store is the same machine shown on pages
346-8 of Morgan & Lester's Stereo Realist Manual. Apparently a
Monobjective microscope is equal to a stereo microscope for taking
stereoscopic photos. The trick is to make a Schulman device to polarize
the light, and the Schulman device is only three components-- essentially
three polaroid filters. A large filter with polariod filters butted
together (at opposing angles), installed below the diaphram of the
substage condenser and two polariod filters placed over the eyepieces, at
opposing angles of polarization.

Looks easy enough to fabricate the filters, and the examples shown on
pages 348-9 are spectacular.

Anyone tried this. If so, any advice?

Thanks, Elliott
