STEREO 3-D on 360 degrees.

3-D STEREO 360=B0 PANOPTIC

On the 26th of March, 1993, during a local meeting of Belgian members of
the INTERNATIONAL STEREOSCOPIC UNION (ISU) a completely new type of camera
was presented, to the best of our knowledge for the first time in the
world. This camera combines two original photographic techniques, 360=B0
panoptic photography and stereoscopic photography.

This prototype, designed and built by optician Michel DUSARIEZ of Brussels,
BELGIUM will take - in one go - two stereoscopic pairs of photographs
covering two times 360=B0
The very first experimental photograph had been taken the day before in the
optician's shop.

The two prints, of an elongated format, ratio 1:4.93, each covering 360=B0 .

The camera was made from a body of a CANON AE1 cut in two parts, and
separeted about 40mm in order to have a base of 66mm.

The lenses used are two 12.5 mm f/2.8 covering 73=B0 vertically. The length
of each of the two negatives covering one full 360=B0 turn is 78.5 mm.

A cam disc automatically switches off current after two revolutions. The
panoptic principle used, is based on that of the Danish inventor Lars R.
LARSEN. The unique feature of the Stereo Panoptic Camera is that the film
instead of passing between the disc and the film pressure plate passes via
two drums, one of which is fixed to the base.

Present at the first public presentation were Mr. Pierre CHANTRENNE, ISU
representative for Belgium, Guy MARTIN, experienced stereoscopist, Dr. J-M
STRAUS, constructor of stereo cameras since 1946, and Roland DECONINCK,
kite aerial photographer.
