Michael Levine asked if anyone has tried to convert a View-Master
Stereomatic to halogen lamps, single or dual. It would be relatively easy
to convert to dual halogen lamps made for 16mm movie projectors. These have
focussed dichroic mirrors that do not require condenser lenses.
Unfortunately, this would concentrate too much heat on the V-M film chips,
due to their small size and the fact that they stay in the beam for an
extended period of time. I am sure most of us have seen what happens when a
16mm film jams in the film gate. It takes only a few seconds for the heat
to burn a hole through the film. 35mm slides are large enough to stand a
little more heat.
