I sent this message once, but it never showed up on the digest so here it is
again. Sorry if it shows up twice.
Just to let you know, I sent off the expo to Ken Luker in Salt Lake City
last Tuesday (07/02/96).
This was the first time I was able to see many of the different "types" of
stereo images. It was also the first time I saw projected images (I bought a
projector just days before I received the expo). No one warned me that the
projectionist has the worst seat in the house! I didn't realize that the
projector had to be 25-30 feet away from the screen. I have the 5" lenses in
a TDC 116, do the 4" lenses allow the projector to be closer with the same
image size?
I was not able to spend as much time viewing the images as I wanted to and
therefore didn't make any comments. I would like to say that there are an
awful lot of very good stereophotographers out there. There are also a few
that, while not so good now, do show a lot of promise for the future.
I found it very hard to compare the different formats to one another. If the
same exact photo was entered as a Realist slide, a medium format slide, a
print pair, etc I would have to say that the medium format slide would be
impossible to beat. I also found that I much preferred looking at slides in
a viewer over being projected. However, getting an entire audiences'
reaction at the same time when projecting is unbeatable.
I must also admit that I have a real weakness for close ups. Needless to say
the Macro Realist shots were among my favorite. The beehive was outstanding
and technically probably the best although my vote for overall favorite
would have to be the Toad. Now if someone could make a medium format macro!
I live in an area with very few 3D enthusiasts and probably won't get to see
photos like this until the next expo. I am assuming that will be a year or
so away. I can't wait that long so if there is anyone who would like to
exchange slides or is willing to just send me slides to look at please
contact me.
Finally, thanks to Joel Alpers and everyone else who put this expo together.
It has truly been one of the highlights of year for me.
