3-D at Theme Parks

Hi folks!,
Being a lover of 3-D I'm deceived by the absolutely lack of 3-D feature =
film productions these days. Where are the people capable of using =
stereo imagery at its best.
I have found some of these people behind the shorts showing at the =
Disney and Universal Studios Theme Parks. Their movies use 3-D as a =
gimmick, but they also have humour, great sets and big dosis of =
creativity. Things that were rarely present on the cheap 3-D movies from =
the 80's (Although some of them were quite fun).
On Disney, the now defunct Magic Journeys has a candid theme and offer =
some brilliant 3-D staging (70 mm!). Captain EO was far more =
sophisticated but the plot was a little thin while some special EFX =
belonged crearly to the pre-digital era -with lots of optical =
matte-shots and rotoscoping- but still effective.
A new kind of 3-D short subject, The Muppet movie (MuppetVision 3-D) at =
the Disney-MGM Studios, my favourite, combines brilliant gags with =
theater effects -on the funny side-. Using a similar sense of humour =
and aggresive on the theatre effects, Honey, I Shrunk the Audience =
(EPCOT), lacks the charm of the Muppets' but is quite entertaining and =
amusing (those rats at your legs!).
Universal's approach to 3-D is been more tame until recently. Just the =
Birds segment (very well done) on Alfred Hithcock The Art of Making =
Movies, wich gives also the opportunity to view a 3-D excerpt from Dial =
M for Murder.
Until now, when Universal has jumped aboard the 3-D field with =
Terminator 2: 3D. I haven't seen it yet. Has any of you, guys?. It =
sounds promising...
Well, Theme Parks' 3-D production seems healthy. But, what about 3-D =
movies for standard theaters?. Difficults abound: 3-D filming is more =
expensive, technically complex, and theaters do need special equipment =
and some skills to project correctly ... Where are the imaginative and =
fearless filmakers able to overcome this and shoot good 3-D.=20
