The reason the instructions didn't say anything about putting the film 
under the tap over the sprocket is that it wasnn't necessary to! In 
those days all films had a "Leica" trim to the leader. This means full 
width was not attained until 22 perforations from the end of the leader.
Modern film for the last 10 or 15 years has been trimmed to get to full 
width 8-9 perfs from the end. If you retrim the leader you can load 
Leica (screw thread lens mount bodies) and Realists without trouble!
I think it is better to trim the film than rish a broken spocket hole 
trying to force film under tab. (I carry folding scissors for the job).
