Yep.. cos I bought one from John Goggans group purchase (HomeBrew-VR
listserver) of them a month ago. The group purchase price was $75 wich was much
better then the rrp of $199. So at $59.95 they are a real bargin. Actually the
reason they're cheap is that Chinon have ceased production of them, but since
they are LCDBios compatable that shouldn't be a problem.
What they are, are LCD Shutter glasses, that alternativley blank off each eye.
When connected to your PC and driven by suitable software the PC can display
the two stereocopic views in sync with the shuttering effect. This achieves a
3D image on the screen! The down side is that it halfs the effective refresh
rate so the image can appear to flicker, IMO I've not really noticed it too
much. These glasses connect to your PC via the parallel port (No expansion card
required.. a big plus if you run it on a laptop!)
The CDROM that comes with it contains the DESCENT game and a few others
(WOLFENSTIEN..) that will run with the glasses. The glasses are LCDBios
compatable (a shareware driver), and so many commercial games are compatable
with them. Actually DESCENT version 1.5 (upgrade from there WWW) has much
better support for stereoscopic 3D and gives a much better and quicker effect.
If you are concidering buying them then I would also look at a company called
VREX who sell a set of IR remote glasses (i,e, no trailing wires..) called VR
Surfer, that can also be connected to your VCR and be used to view field
sequential videos. The price $69 !!! Jeezzz, I wish I had heard about these
before I bought the Cybershades since the 3D Videos is of more interest to me
than a 3D PC...
The only thing I've not managed to track down (it dosen't come with the
Cybershades) is a LCDBios compatable image viewer. At the moment all these
3D Interlaced GIFs that I find are totally unviewable.. if anyone knows of a
compatable viewer let me know..
