3D Movies

aren't very many of them of that quality. No one in that time managed to
work out enough new material and special effects combined with good

Guilty! Guilty! Guilty! The above, abstracted from Larry's post,
resurrected my suppressed memories. I was responsible for the decline
of 3D in the movies of the '50's!!! But now that I've recognized the
truth, I can accept it and move on with my life (That psychological
mumbo jumbo was probably the next movie fad following Hollywood's love
affair with 3D.).

Anyway, in cliche fashion, I wanted to comment that Larry hit the nail
on the head as far as my memories of the decline are concerned. I was
an adolescent in the mid '50's and a movie buff who thought it all came
together when Bwana Devil came to town. I saw all the 3D movies that
were shown that next year or so .
Then, the novelty started to wear. I got selective. I loved (and still
do) 3D, but I also loved good movies (and still do). I started NOT
seeing everything that Hollywood made in 3D. I started choosing better
movies (even though I wished they had been made in 3D). There must have
been a lot of us (sharing the quilt now). The impact of the novelty of
3D was not sustaining for moviegoers, i.e., the regular moviegoers who
wanted to see good movies as their number one priority. The decline at
the box office was undoubtedly obvious. But the conclusion that people
were tired of 3D was not correct, at least not in my case. I was tired
of bad movies.

Anyway, I know there were many other reasons for the decline, but I
needed to shed my quilt by coming clean with my contribution. Then
again, maybe it was just puberty, and having other things to do besides
going to the movies. :-)
