3D Matts for the movies etc
I am a bit behind with this discussion as I have had a day ofef and also
had some problems with my E mail on friday. I remember some time ago
reading of a suggestion that holographic matts could be made of models for
filming through. This was for 2D films to allow some camera movement and
therefore parrallax change for more realism but would seem to be a
possibility for 3D films as well. Although I dont know whether the
technique has ever actualy been used even for 2D. The film Tron was 2D
ofcoarse but I have viewmaster reel set based on the film, I have not
viewed it lately but I think the in computer scenes were just two or more
flat planes like the viewmaster cartoons. Recently I saw a documentary on
"Long throw UV" and got the impression that the fluorescence of the actors
costumes in Tron was achieved that way rather than by rotoscoping. Although
as long throw UV seems to be quite new and Tron is now quite an old film
perhaps they were just saying that it could/would be done that way today.
