Seattle Scala Review...

Hello all,

While the rest of you were letting your wallets leak out all over the place
and _talking_ about taking pictures, I was happily snapping away on a 10-day
excursion to the Pacific Northwest. Great hypers of
the Seattle skyline, flowers in bloom at Vancouver's Queen E. Park, lots of
50's neon signs and the wilds of the gulf Islands. Those going to NSA '97
should make it a point to get to Vancouver and out to the coast, as the
Pacific Northwest is an extremely stereo-picturesque place.

Tried several different film stocks. I liked Kodak Lumiere 100, giving
Kodachromey looking color with pushability and good enough grain.

But my favorite pics I shot on Agfa Scala B&W 200. It was my first time with
the stuff and I was _very_ pleased with the results. Luckily, one of the
three U.S. Scala labs, Duggal, is about 8 blocks away, and they turned it
around in 6 hours. It was odd shooting with such fast film. In the
brightest sun I encountered, I couldn't even stop down enough to get a good
exposure. Did anyone make neutral density series 5 filters? If not, I will,
as this is definitely something I want to do again. The images are
_remarkably_ crisp given the speed, especially when in the f8-11 range.

I feel almost as if with B&W I've discovered a whole different medium. B&W is
great for capturing texture and patterns without the distraction of color; I
got rows of fruit at Pike Place, and synchronized Taiko Drummers. _Highly_
recommended and worth the extra money... though none of you seem to have any
left...
