A bit more Rochester anyone?

I've now been home 24 hours past Rochester and I'm still in a dreamlike
state. This was my first convention and did not really know what to
expect. I'm a completely lone stereographer/collector and have never even
met another 3D person before. Here we were, me among hundreds of kindred
spirits; I'm not so strange, I realized. Here's a myriad of people who do
what I do. They share my passion, think as I do, and embrace the same
theories (for the most part) in photography as I. How wonderful!! I
bought so many lovely items: Harry Poster set me up with a brand new slide
transport for my TDC 116. Dalia, a person who you feel you've known for
years within five minutes of meeting her, supplied me with tons of
wonderful VM reels and sets, several TruVue strips and cards (I'm a newbie
to TruVue, and I think I'm about to get passionate), and even a number of
Realist slides of a 3D Bar-Mitzvah!!!! I came home with armloads of
goodies, but whom among us did not?
The people. Such remarkable, gentle people. Such scholarly, knowlegable
people. Such fun loving people. And I have friends too - far better than
all the goodies I bought. The remarkable Dr. T. on whose conversations I
eavesdropped just to glean a hint or two; whose work I watched just to get
a smidge of an idea of how a man can fight to get a viewed image directly
to the brain and try to eliminate the conscious process of
slide-to-viewer-to-eyes. He's an elegant gentleman and most welcoming. I
was so impressed by the way he guided newcomer Norman Totti, and so
inspired him, that Norman went home with two cameras! Mike Kaplan,
architect, had all he could do between stereo chatter and checking out the
buildings on East Main St. Charley van Pelt is the homiest guy on earth.
I picked up so many VM packets from him but mostly enjoyed bopping him with
questions about his being a VM photographer. Such a great joy to know
Wolfgang and MaryAnn Sell, Joel Alpers, Jon Golden and Dick Twitchel. And
"the guys": Jamie Drouin, Lincoln Kamm and Alexander Klein. If I could,
I'd swoop them off and take them home with me. My wife agrees. Jamie
whose pristine photographic skills and taste bubble throughout him. Linc
whose ingenuity and invention is only paralleled by his stereography - all
of which is tied in somehow, to the twinkle of mischief in his eye and his
remarkable sense of fun. Alex whose passion for 3D, especially TruVue, is
downright infectious and his remarkable publication, 3D Magazin, makes this

young fellow a true amazement.
I neglected to mention scores of others who were so friendly. Wonderful
people. I hope to see you all again. I can't make Washington, but I hope
to be there in '98.
Best,
Bob
