Copyright concerns

Fellow Photo-3Ders,

I have been attempting to persuade someone the past few months that they=20 are committing a copyright violation, but have not had much success. I=20 was hoping that the Photo-3D list members might be able to assist with a=20 little friendly pressure.

One of our fellow Photo-3D contributors, Alexander Klein, has several=20 Web pages listing the known Tru-Vue production titles, with marks=20 indicating which titles he has and those he does not=20 (http://www.bawue.de/~stereo/truvue.html). Unfortunately, these lists=20 are a portion of a copyrighted article that I wrote last year for the=20 VTCA's "ReView". Alex has posted these on the Internet without my=20 permission, and without appropriate crediting of authorship. The lists=20 took several months for me to compile from the titles in my collection,=20 from Tru-Vue sales catalogs, and from the contributions of several other=20 collectors. Although the lists are not complete (I will have a more=20 complete version coming out next year), they did take a lot of time and=20 effort to compile, and I would at least like to be credited with their=20 content.=20

Alex wrote to me shortly before my article was published in the "ReView"=20 and asked if he could reprint it in "a European 3D magazine". I=20 responded that he could if he credited myself and the VTCA, and sent me=20 a copy of the article when it was published. Since I never received a=20 reply, I assumed that the article was never published (I am not a=20 subscriber to 3D Magazin, so have no way of checking).

I was quite surprised when I saw the list published in its entirety on=20 the Internet, under Alex's name and copyright, a few months ago. I wrote=20 to him several times asking that the proper accreditation be given for=20 the information, but have not received a response.

Now, Alex did do a nice job of presenting the list on the Internet, and=20 anyone who had access to the same resources that I did could have come=20 up with a similar list. I just feel that credit should be given where=20 credit is do. I would like to be considered somewhat knowledgeable about=20 Tru-Vue and Tru-Vue collecting, and I think that the articles and=20 booklets that I write help me to establish at least a small amount of=20 credibility amongst my peers. If someone else publishes my work under=20 their name, it tends to take some of that credibility away.

Anyway, if anyone on the list thinks that my request is valid, would you=20 send in a line to the list saying "Please give Tom credit!". If enough=20 people respond, perhaps Herr Klein will reconsider.

To be fair, if you think that I am out of line by posting this on the=20 list, send in a line saying "Give it up Tom", and I will keep my mouth=20 shut.

As a side note: the VTCA=92s home site is up and running. As soon as I ge= t=20
the digitized images that accompany the articles ready, I=92ll post the=20 address.

Thanks for your time, Tom Martin (aka Mr. Novelview)
