Tom: There may, or may not, be a valid copyright in the list you created. Copyright law is kind of back and forth on lists because it depends on the work that went into it, etc (not typically thought of as an original creation). But assuming you do, and given the fact that Alex asked for your permission, you granted him a limited license to reproduce the work under certain specific terms and accordingly he should NOT be placing it on his web site or elsewhere unless properly crediting you as you directed....Regardless, it's just a downright shitty thing to do. (I've also been educated on a strong Quaker-based college honor code at Haverford College that still makes me recoil at people's actions such as what you described)
