This won't do Nancy and Lee Castro any good, and, probably, at this late date it won't help the person whose van was broken into last year in Atlanta. But having just seen the Castro's post in Digest 1452 and John Weiler's follow up post about the theft in Atlanta, I have some old information that might be of help.
I TOOK DOWN THE GEORGIA LICENSE PLATE NUMBER OF A SUSPICIOUS LOOKING INDIVIDUAL (beat up car, crouched low in it and peeking at someone loading stereo goodies in their van) IN THE PARKING LOT AT ATLANTA'S CONVENTION LAST YEAR. When the individual saw me watching him, he casually drove away. I still have the piece of paper I used to copy down the number.
Anyone know if that case has been solved/resolved? Are the owners of the van still concerned? Are the police still looking or willing to consider this "new" lead? Is there an insurance agent still in the hunt, who could be contacted? Anyone who can use this information or know of someone I should be contacting, please email me on or off this list.
I didn't have any reason to cause a stir with this information until John Weiler's post. That was my first knowledge of theft in Atlanta. Nancy, Lee, you did right. I wish I had seen a post about the Atlanta theft in as timely a manner as your post for the Rochester theft.
