A kind and thoughtful friend brought me one of John Dukes'
Projection Previewer(tm) gadgets from the Rochester event.
I'd like to tell all of you that it is one nifty little gadget!
It works! It's slick, clean, and nifty!
It does have two requirements -
1. It must fit into where the slide carrier fits in your projector
2. The projector lens separation must be able to spread apart
considerably farther than for standard Realist mount separation.
It works quite well in my COMPCO Triad.
It does not work in my FED Boy. - which currently may only be of
interest to the other person in this country who bought the other
one.
The FED projector has seen several incarnations in its nascent
attempts at immigration. Some of these genetic variations involve
the carrier design. In some models, the entire carrier assembly
is removable and interchanging carriers for various mount formats
is done this way.
The "Boy" has a fixed carrier rack and different carriers slide
in and out. They are thin. The Projection Previewer(tm) is thicker.
This incompatibility can be overcome by removing the mask channels
on the Projection Previewer(tm) but... the FED's lenses and optical
path are not far enough apart to be able to project the widely
separated images on the uncut film. Modification of the lens
carrier assembly would not be a trivial matter.
If the FED's optical path were wider, it would be a larger projector
and, frankly, the shoe-box size is very nice - even if it does weigh
in at nearly 3.6 kilotons.
But, if you have one of the "Standard" projectors, you may decide
that "Stereo FilmStrips" are the Cat's Meow and you can stop
feeling guilty about those rolls and rolls of uncut, unmounted
slides which make up Winter projects into the next millenium.
The Projection Previewer(tm) is real cool! I like mine.
Note: no animals nor medication were used in the preparation of
this message. I am not connected in any way to the manufacturers
or sellers of the Projection Previewer(tm). Peach ice cream is
an all-time favourite.
