Yes. Normal film emulsion won't retain the polarization. The resulting
single-strip film will be randomly polarized. There *is* a process
that allows the film itself to polarize the projected image, but it
is *very* expensive.

I've got the Nishika unit; it lacks a PC connection, so unless you modify
the Realist hot shoe and/or the flash to both fit and make the electrical
connection, or build an adaptor that doesn't require a PC cord, you're
stuck. Don't know about the Nimslo. Aside from the above and the general
lack of power, though, there's no technical reason. :-)
I personally use a Metz 45-CL1 handle-mount, with excellent results.
