Trip to NYC and Imax 3D

Just got back from a couple of days in the Big Apple with my daughter Holly.
A leaking gas tank cut our driving short but not our trip or spirits. We
stayed at a hotel in Stamford, CT and took the train in each day. Happen to
mention to Dr. T that I was headed there and he recommended that I stop by
the Sony Imax Theater and see "Across the Sea of Time". I'm sure that many
of you here have seen it but for those that haven't I'd recommend it. It's
definitely worth the time. The feature is only an hour long but is a great
story. If you do plan to go be sure to go at least an hour in advance
since many of the shows are sellouts. There is also a small 3D exhibit with
several turn-of-the-century items on display including cameras, viewers and
views of NYC.

We did the obligatory visits to Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood, All Star
Diner, and the musical Grease (my 13 year old daughter was in charge of the
itinerary). I really enjoyed the musical but the best time I had was
telling curious observers about that funny looking camera hanging around my
neck. I've owned my Realist since February of this year and have had some
strange looks and a question or two here or there but this trip to NY was
frustrating at least for my daughter. In one day I had no less than a dozen
folks either comment or stop completely to talk...and in the city that is
notorious for the phrase "What are you looking at!?!". I couldn't count the
many more staring at the camera at crosswalks and in stores. At one point
I thought my daughter was going to ask me to put it away. This trip to NY I
went cold turkey and carried only my Realist leaving behind my usual arsenal
of Nikon F4s, and assortment of heavy glass at home. At first I felt naked
without a heavy camera bag but the more I shot the Realist more I liked it.
If the five 36 exposure rolls of Sensia come out as I envisioned it will be
well worth it. Hopefully the night scenes of Time Square will work (if the
trashcan tripod didn't vibrate too much!). The 14 miles of walking was
fun...my feet have a different view though...

Didn't mean to ramble too much but I did want to share the Imax 3D
experience...if you're in town...drop by! It's just a few blocks North of
Columbus circle on Broadway...around 68th street I think...
