TCQ, NYC, XP5, ETC.
Hello all,
Gabriel Jacob writes...

This is true, there are 2 versions. There is a horizontal-lentic.
color-changing-animated and a vertical-lentic. 3D edition. It's actually
the #1 selling record at Tower this week (again, top of the genre if you like
rap)... Stores in my area are fast selling out of both. Some stores only
sell the animated, and some only the 3D. Keep looking!
*It was great hearing Tim Smith's reports of walking down the street with a
Realist in NYC. I know how he feels, I do this nearly every weekend. I
always carry a sample photo with one of the reel-3d viewers. This is highly
recommended... it's much easier than saying "Kinda like a viewmaster, but
with a bigger image, but the mount isn't round, and with only one picture." ,
and everyone's mighty impressed. My favorite responses have been "Look, it's
got three lenses, one for each dimension... I see..." and just this weekend
someone startled me by nearly screaming, "Woah, that's the coolest f*****g
camera I've ever seen!"
*I posted a while ago with this question, but noone answered so I thought I'd
ask again: I recently found a flea-market Nimslo ($20!... guy said "you
can't buy the right film(!) or get it developed anymore..." hee hee), and it
seems to work fine. It'll be a backup for places where the Realist can't go,
and it's great not to have to think about it, just pointing and shooting...
Anyway, I'd like to fix it for double-exposure to do flickers, hypers, etc.
as recently mentioned. The Reel 3-D book says something like "Cut out a
1/4" * 3/4" notch at the bottom left of the plastic lens surround, and the
shutter cocking lever will become visible," however, it's not really clear
what this means. Where _exactly_ do I cut? What do I cut with? The
technical diagrams make it seem like the cock is somewhat _below_ the lens
surround.
*At Jon Golden's house a while back, I saw a big B&W lenticular from an old
Leica P.O.P. display that blew me away. Shooting that roll of Scala in my
Realist also heightened my appreciation of B&W stereo. Has anyone tried
shooting a Nimslo roll with Ilford's XP5 and sending it to the usual places
(Weber's, Nimstec, Widescreen?) for B&W lenticulars? XP5 is a black-and
white 400-speed film that is developed in standard color C-41 process. Of
course, printing to color paper may cause problems (blue-ing, I predict).
I'll certainly post a report when I'm done. Oh yeah, the archive is down
and I was hoping someone would repost Nimstec's adress (or send direct to
me).
Happy shooting,
-E in NYC
