Suggest something.  8-)  Preferably something shorter
and at least as mellifluous.

When it comes to this sort of thing, this metamorphosis
of words, I only object if there's a regression to the
mean, so to speak, of the words.  That is, if we have a
word for stereopticon and a word for stereoscope, and then
we confer the meaning of the latter on the former, then by
what name shall we call the former?  To carry it ad infinitum
ad absurdum, all words would eventually mean exactly the same
thing, perhaps "sex" or "earth".  8-)  I think  one could
say the same situation pertains with beamsplitter and
framesplitter except that in this case the original meaning
won't go away but will rather continue to confuse.
