Re: Review of Kodalux & alternatives

Thank you Jerry Gore for this nice review of the Kodalux
stereo slide mounting service. I am sure that having Kodak
do the mounting will take the fear out of mounting for many
beginners. The other alternative, of course, is doing your
own mounting. With Kodak charging only $4.99 per 24 exp.
roll, the cost savings is minimal. Having better control of
the results is the major advantage. I have been doing my own
mounting since I started and I can assure you that you don't
need a Ph.D. to do a good job. (I have a Ph.D. friend who
mounted all her slides pseudo in her first roll! And so did
another friend, member of this list - I won't say any names...)

How do you decide what mounting material to use? Get some
samples to try. Reel 3-d sells a 3-D slide mount sampler.
You might be able to get an RBT sample from Jon Golden.
Which mount is the best? As Reel 3-D says (get their
catalog, it's a must!): "You'll have to decide for yourself
which qualities make a mount the best for you"...

Regarding the statement:

>P.S. As far as I know they only process REALIST STEREO SLIDES
>and not other types.

That means "Realist-format" and not slides taken with the
Realist Stereo camera, of course! The Realist format is a
universal language in stereo photography. The other two
alternatives in 35 mm slide format are 7-p slides taken
with a FED, Belplasca, Iloca original or Verascope stereo
cameras, or full-frame stereos. You need to do your own
mounting with those...

What does 5-p, 7-p, etc. mean? How can I mount full frame
slides? These and other questions are answered in Reel-3d's
and Jon Golden's free literature...
