Yup - if you are willing to drive a bit, Death Valley is a couple
of hours away (of course, visiting in August is not recommended!).
Plus we could set up a convention luncheon in the parking lot
of Nishika in Henderson (half :-)
Also just the other side of Henderson is Hoover Dam, which offers some
fairly spectacular possibilities for stereo subjects, and the tour
inside the dam and power house is really interesting (at least, I
thought so :-) One kind of impressive part of the tour (a few
years ago anyway when I last did it) was that you could go into
a little inspection room built atop the giant penstocks which
feed the water from the lake into the turbines. The whole thing
rumbles continueously from the force of the water flowing thru
the dam. Pretty impressive.
On the other hand, I was just in Elko in the northern part of the
state, and found that it's fairly easy to feed a couple of hundred
quarters into the slots and have nothing to show for it afterward :-)
