Hi All!
Just returned from a family trip to D.C. and environs. I was saddened and
dismayed to find that the only VM sets sold were "Washington D.C." (5154)
and "Beautiful Washington D.C." (5160) and these were to be found at only
two points of tourism: The Lincoln Memorial and Ford's Theatre. As we all
know there are several sets which concern D.C. and none but these two were
available. Upon a bit of investigation, I found that the two souvenir
shops I mentioned were managed by the same woman. When I spoke to her, she
was not aware of the other sets. No wonder Tyco has little to no interest
in producing the non-toystore VM sets. The points of tourism either don't
care or are unaware of the availability of the sets. They should all be
ashamed.
My youngest daughter recently went on a school trip to the Statue of
Liberty and Ellis Island. She reported back that the Ellis Island set was
for sale (at a highly inflated price) but Charley van Pelt's excellent
Statue of Liberty set was no where to be found. (I highly recommend both
sets for those who for some reason don't have them. The Ellis Island set
includes a number of antique views.) What's with these tourist spots?
Don't they realize that a VM set makes the best four buck souvenir (except
at the Statue of Liberty) that one can buy? And why can't Tyco get more
aggressive in their sales department and make sure that all the sites
concerned carry their appropriate VM sets. Gosh knows I could have picked
up a lovely Washington Monument with a thermometer stuck on its side!!
Oh yeah, about the '98 con: Why not Virginia? What a beautiful state!
Steeped in history and so many stereo-ops! I burned at least a half dozen
Velvias in Virginia alone!
Blowing off Steam,
Best,
