Tyco Mistakes (IMHO)
Hi All!
First I'd like to thank those who put me in the company of Jamie Drouin,
whose sensitivities via the View Master format is heretofore unseen and
should be treasured.
OK! Now, Tyco. Of course their biggest mistake is the appearance of the
viewer. No adult consumer would have very much interest in a lollypop red
item with an orange clicker on it. Something more conservative and, er,
photographic in appearance would be far better. This isn't to say the
kiddie market should suffer, but two direct appeals should be established.
The point of tourism packets should not only be available at every
appropriate site, but also sold at retailers who deal in related products.
There are many 'science stores' around malls in every state. In their
dinosaur area, the VM set. should be there. In their rocks and gems
sections, the caverns and the other sets should be displayed. Speed Shops
should carry the Street Rods (vols 1&2) in their stores. Video stores
should have the newest sets for the newest sales/rentals. Get the idea,
Tyco? Viewers should be available at all stores too.
My local Disney and Warner Bothers stores don't carry View Masters!!!
They'll order any you'd like, but the packets and viewers aren't there.
What they need is a mammoth display with VMs stuck all over it so kids
could see what this 'toy' is all about.
Museum gift shops should be carrying Jamie's work! With adult looking
viewers for sale too.
Mighty dumb company Tyco is! There's a world out there who can easily
discover a truly wonderful thing which is privy, virtually to people such
as we.
Best,
Bob
