I'm a frequent reader but infrequent contributor to this list. I thought
I'd share my 3D photography experience. I got interested by accident in 3D
photography last year, and subscribed to this list. I bought a Realist
camera from Dr. T and am now on my third roll of film. I bought a film
chopper and some heat seal mounts and found the process to be so simple I'm
not really tempted to send them out for mounting. I have an old Brumberger
viewer ( is there a new one?8-)) that was corroded from leaky batteries
that I have repaired enough to be usable. I would like to send it off for
repair, but don't want to be without a viewer for even a couple weeks.
I am in the process of learning how to use the Realist, and I am now
certain that it is going to be my everyday camera for outside pictures. I
find the 3D images to be so "realistic" that I want all my images to have
the 3D feeling and quality. It is easy to use the Realist on a normal sunny
day as a point and shoot camera. I am actually surprised how easy it is.
For me the Realist was an easy and inexpensive way to get into the hobby.
I enjoyed Jamie Drouin's VM anecdote. Since I live in Victoria, I plan to
go to the gallery and pick up a reel. I do find though, that I have to
keep my glasses on when using a ViewMaster and this makes the 3D effect
less "immersive". Should I have laser eye surgery so that I can use a VM
viewer without glasses? I'll see what my wife says. I think she'd
appreciate it, since I know she gets tired of cranking the focus nob on my
Brumberger every time I hand it to her.
Next time I write I hope to have tried a roll of film in my newly
re-acquired Kodak Stereo camera. I eventually had to purchase it at auction
from my place of work . I don't have a good set of instructions for it so
I haven't been as quick to use it.
Till next time...
