I'm glad you liked the conversions and although color anaglyphs cause more
trouble than black and white ones, ABC wanted the images in color. It made
more sense on the CD-ROM (created at the same time as a press kit) where
you could toggle between the 3-D and 2-D versions of the photos.
> Ted: How did you do the conversions? They looked like the real thing.
The conversions were created in Photoshop on a MAC. Often, these kinds of
conversions are created by graphic artists who've had little experience in
3-D. I've been a stereo photographer since '90 and have created many 3-D
line art conversions (some of you may be familiar with my Stereo Stamp Co.)
and I used those past experiences to help me in the process. I would have
loved to spend even MORE time and get MORE levels of depth, but we were on
a budget and time schedule. Using RGB mode in photoshop, I mainly worked on
the Red Channel, altering it to add depth, first in big chunks (the
background from the foregraound) then rounding out the individual important
shapes.
The final versions look better when viewed cleanly, as opposed to the
dithered versions on the web. For those whose monitors are capable of
showing "thousands" of colors, I could email you a jpeg or two. My personal
favorites are "Dangerous Minds" and "Relativity".

Thanks for the compliments. ABC doesn't have anyone whose job it is to
respond to web site email, but if you send any comments to me, I'll be sure
to pass them along (I sent yours already Larry). It would help to encourage
more of this kind of work which I love doing. I'll also try to get an email
button added.
