Auction Find and Advancing Problem

As a VERY infrequent poster to this list, I would like to thank all the
knowledgable people who contribute to photo-3d. Your expertise and
discussions are greatly appreciated.
I've always been envious of other people's `finds' of 3D equipment at
low prices (garage sales, etc.), and finally this summer my wife and I
had one of our own: a Stereo Realist with leather case, which we got for
$5 at an estate auction. Of course, we had to stay the whole day because
they didn't have a scheduled order for the items, and the camera turned
out to be the next to last item auctioned off (ugh). The up side was
hardly any customers were left, and we got it really cheap. It was very
musty smelling, but appeared to be working OK.
After running a roll of film through it, the only problem it had was
frequent and serious overlapping of images. Our other two Realists do
this occasionally, but usually only for a frame or two. This one was
really bad, sometimes by as much as a whole sprocket width, and it had
problems more often than not. Are there any ways to help fix this
(oiling gears, etc.) without a complete overhaul?
One other thing. We also got a new personalized license plate this year.
If you're ever in Ames, Iowa, and see PHOTO3D, that's me!
