3d on the level & in the nude

Greetings,
a couple questions:
1. A couple persons mentioned that taking stereo photos with an off-level
camera is a no-no, and I'm aware that some stereo cameras have a level
built-in. I don't get it, though. I'm still at the experimenting stage so on
one of my first rolls of film I purposely tilted the camera at about a thirty
degree angle to take a shot of an oak tree, just to see why it's frowned
upon. But other than the tree appearing as if it might have been blown part
way over in the last hurricane, there was no problem with the result. Why is
being off level a problem?

2. Completely unrelated: One of the cut-out booksellers is offering the
book... darn, forgot to bring the catalog and can't recall the title, but
it's something like "Stereo Atkus Nudes." I'm sure someone will recognize
what it is. Anyhoo, it appears to be reproductions of risque vintage
stereoviews. Can anyone tell me whether this book actually includes a
substantial amount of vintage stereo pairs? (oops. Freudian slip.) I can't
really justify buying a naughty book unless I can tell my wife it's for
research! ;-)
thanks,
Andy Burr
