That's all well and good, BUT - the two cameras would still need
to be "twinned" such that the film planes are very parallel and
both cameras are level.

Even if they were, somewhere in the process the resulting two
images would need to be matched and placed in the "stereo window"
so that the stereo pair can be viewed with a minimum of eye strain.

This is the part that requires human intervention.

Who among the masses will do that? (not even Kodak...)

  although a new(?) member of this list does offer that service ;-)

Just having two pictures of the same thing from two slightly
different places isn't stereo any more than a few cups of flour,
some yeast and liquid are automatically a loaf of bread.

As far as bread machines go, ever eat what they produce?  Ever
made your own bread the "regular way?"
