Freeviewing is simple once you get the hang of it (like riding a 
bicycle :-)

You position your eyes so that they are looking at a point
at infinity (ie, parallel axis, not converging) but FOCUS 
at the distance where the card is positioned. Since one only normally
focuses at infinity when you are looking at infinity, this is
initially difficult. 

This is of course assuming that the two views are not more widely
separated than your pupil to pupil spacing. If they are, then you
need to go "wall eyed" which is considerably more difficult.

Me, I had a HARD time doing "cross eyed" views until about a year
ago when someone suggested cutting two holes in a piece of paper
and holding it so each eye could only see the image on the other
side. Once I "felt" what it was like to do it, then I can manage
without problems.

eyed and "free viewing" (assuming your monitor will display
an image of the correct size) take a look at
