Although I found that freeviewing got easier and faster with practice, my
"optical" situation does make a big difference, And so person-to-person
variables are very likely there.
Without my glasses or contacts, I can freeview almost anything "instantly".
Some stereoscope cards are hard or impossible, but most of those are easy
even though there is a bit of divergence. Most book pictures or realist
slides are easy too -- although the slides still yield a small image,
even if free-viewed easily.
But! Put my contacts in, and *maybe* I can freeview a stereoscope card
if I hold it far away while wear reading glasses to "undo" the contacts somewhat
and "concentrate" as well. Anything else, "forget it". My contacts destroy
my freeviewing ability. Are you near-sighted wearing contacts?
So I know it isn't "technique" when I have my contacts on. Because I can
freeview instantly and easily with them off.
So, the trick is to find some condition that you can do it. If you can
see SIRDS pictures, then "you can do it". If you have glasses or contacts
try combinations of things in/out on/off to find a point where you can
freeview. Once freeviewing works, then you have a point to experiment from.
And to practice from.
My eye doctor told me that I had extraordinarily strong eye muscles. I'm
not sure if that's the result or the cause. But that might make a difference
too. Maybe general eye exerises would help? Does anybody's eye doctor
know about freeviewing specifically ?
