Have you seen this written anywhere?  Reading the rules of various
competitions I have never seen any mention of exclusion of computer 
3D images.  Not only that, but most competitions have a "Contemporary" 
award which is well-suited for these images.

A fellow in Detroit (hi Bill!) is only submitting computer 3D images.

In many respects computer 3D is not that different from experiments using 
different films and techniques to alter a photographic image.

The technique over creativity is a matter of novelty in my mind.  The
novelty of computer 3D makes it easy for them to surface in an
oversaturated Realist field.  With judges seeing more of this kind
of 3D and makers becoming more skilled and matured the quality and
creativity in computer 3D will certainly go up.  If more and more people 
use the same techniques then the more creative of them will do better and 
creativity will take over.... until the next novel technique surfaces, etc.
