Old timers and young wipper snappers

Dr. George A. Themelis writes

>Sure, we believe you Gabriel... Check Reel 3-D's two books on the
>Historical 3-D Reprint Series: F. Drouin's "The Stereoscope and
>Stereoscopic Photography" (1894) and T. Brown's "Stereoscopic Phenomena of
>Light and Sight" (1903). The first one was also reviewed by Dr. T in
>Stereo World and in this list.

Yes George I know you do, because when I mentioned "everything in 3d that is
supposedly new is old and everything has been done already", was basically
a rehash of exactly what you posted a while back ago. So I know we are in
total agreement on that one. I was not referring to you ,even thou the
unintentional thread that transpired originated with you. The reason I
wrote what I did was because where the thread was leading to. No one on
the ensueing thread actually stated they would, but the feeling jokingly or
otherwise was there, abandon ship. Dr.T had the right feelings in his post
because I feel the same way with some of the posts myself and I am a relative
newcomer to this place. I personally did like many others and lurked for
months and skimmed the old digests before I started adding my2cents, so
I know the sentiment about going over the same topic. That is only proper
netiquette. But I am glad this thread transpired because it brings up an
interesting question. Where do new people go for faq. Sure lurking helps
but that's not enough. Alot of the stuff might take along time to absorb.
I for one am following the SL3D (single lens 3d) quite deligently, but
am lost in what they are explaining most of the time. When I progress
I surely will go back in the digests to read it again from another point of
view. Now as for the faq. It was mentioned a while back that there was no
single 3d faq document. I have seen an old one, written by Joel Alpers,
and is probably available elsewhere also. Here is a brief excerpt.

>The 3D mailing list is a group of individuals who discuss 3D photography
>and closely allied subjects via electronic mail. An article posted to the
>group will literally be read by and get responses from a worldwide audience.
>This list of frequently asked questions about 3D has been compiled from
>discussions on the 3D mailing list, and other sources. Whenever possible,
>credit has been given to the sources used.

Another good one is at.

George I know you would be the last one to leave this list as you have
the determination to spread the 3d word to the masses. This requires
patience which you have alot of except with me, which I don't mind,
because hey that's what friends are for.;-)

I think everyone on the thread contributed positive comments 99% of
the time and respect their points of view because they were valid.
If we didn't have differing "points of view", we wouldn't have 3D!
I am happy oldtimers like Bob Wier, keeper of this place, Michael Kaplan,
Marvin Jones, among others put up with us new kids on the block, because
if they were not there I would not be there either. I am not an old timer
according to the Themelis 12 point standard. I am roughly the same age as
George and Greg.

Last night when I posted "That's all for now, gotta go watch the new season
television shows tonight.", the hidden message there was P3D (photo 3-d digest)
is in its new season and we still are playing reruns!

Joke Ahead Joke Ahead Joke Ahead Joke Ahead Joke Ahead Joke Ahead

P.S. Hey you old timers if it wasn't for us wipper snappers rehashing the
old stuff what would you aal be discussin. Do you expect us new folk
to add somethin new when you old folk cant.
