I personally never saw it demonstrated, but I have heard it works. I had
an article describing it, but can't locate it at the moment.

In "Vision and Visual Perception" Clarence Graham (Psychology, Columbia
Univ.) describes 7 "monocular cues that elicit spatial discrimination on
the basis of vision with a single eye." The 2 binocular cues are
convergence and retinal disparity. Graham concludes, "The reader is
referred to Schlosberg's account (1941) of the very striking depth
effects, dependent only on monocular cues, that may be obtained under
proper conditions of monocular viewing."
