Realist shutter speed problem
This is addressed to repairmen/tinkers on the list. My 2.8 Realist (the
back up one, Dr. T, not the one you sold me :-)) has a shutter speed
problem. Every so often, the shutter speed slips to 1/200 sec. and
stays there no matter what the dial is set to. I can tell when it
happens just by the feel and lack of "ratchet-like" sound when the
cocking lever is engaged at slower shutter speeds.
I can remedy the problem by removing the metal face plate of the camera
(four screws on front, two on top), and freeing by hand the
"whatchamacallit" (a pivoting little piece) sitting at 10 or 11 o'clock
relative to the viewfinder.
I've played with the piece to see where the hang up is, but I just can't
tell. Is it sticky, needing lubrication or is there an adjusting screw,
spring, arm, whatever?
I hope I've described the problem adequately. I'd appreciate hearing
from anyone who knows (or has some good suggestions) as to what the cure
might be, so I don't have to keep applying the remedy.
