Mary Ann,

Recently I was talking to Larry Smith, who operates the New Neon Movies
in Dayton, Ohio. You may have seen mention of the New Neon Movies on
this list because they sometimes run 3D movies and have recently achieved
some national notoriety for their revival of CINERAMA.
The Cinerama equipment is owned and operates by a fellow from the Dayton
area who collects and restores vintage movie equipment. He also provides
the stuff to show the dual strip 3D films and he knows how to project
them properly. I believe that you are from Cincinnati, where House of
Wax was recently shown at the Emery. Well, the care and quality
equipment at the Neon movies make the Emery's showing look practically
flat.
For the near future the New Neon will show Cinerama and other films which
take advantage of the enormous curved screen that they have installed.
70 mm restored prints of 2001 and Vertigo (converted from Vista Vision)
and perhaps even It's a Mad, Mad, World are among the things being
considered.
But...The 3D point of all of this is that Larry says he thinks he may
have access to as many as 12 of the classic 50s two strip films,
including Kiss Me Kate. Hondo, Charge at Feather
River and perhaps The French Line. He would be happy to discuss a 3D
Film Festival in conjunction with a convention of 3D enthusiasts. And
Dayton is an interesting and inexpensive town, centrally located and easy
to get to.
It might be something to consider in selecting a convention site.
