Revere Slide viewer

Kodaslide II but it is not rare. More common than the Wollensak or
TDC Deluxe. It is a good viewer with achromatic lenses. Before I
got interested in viewers, 3 years ago, I sold a Revere viewer mint
in a box with the original transformer for only $90! Big mistake
because a viewer like that is worth $150 or more today.
I have noticed two lens variations in this viewer. Older ones have
little nipples that hold the lenses in the lens holder. Later ones
have a retaining screw ring. You can see the nipples or ring by
looking at the lenses from the back. The later lenses are better IMO
because the earlier ones show noticeable image "breakdown" (the image
becomes fuzzy) as you move your eyes from the center of the lenses.
I have a good stock of original late Revere and Wollensak viewer
lenses for sale. They come in the original metal holder and can be
used for lens replacement in existing viewers or general experimentation.
Price is only $15 per lens (compare to $35 or more for similar lenses
from Edmund Scientific). The Revere lenses are a perfect replacement
for Realist lenses (damaged achromats or single-element) as they have
the same diameter (20 mm) and same focal length (44 mm). The Wollensak
lenses have the same diameter but a slighter longer focal length (47mm).
People have used these lenses to replace lenses in Star-D/Brumbergers
Life-Like, Kodaslide I, etc.
Overall, the Revere is a good viewer. Occassionally, the reflector
is bent or has problems that result in shadows. It cannot be replaced
with a flat reflector. Sometimes the Revere logo is missing from the
viewer (it is glued in the switch button). That reduces the selling
price a bit. My PS power supplies work well with this viewer too.
